Erik Weihenmayer is an American athlete, adventurer, author, activist and motivational speaker, and the first blind person to reach the summit of Mount Everest, on May 25, 2001. He was honored with a Time Magazine cover story.
Interestingly he us the first blind person to reach the summit of mount Everest. He has also reached the highest mountain tops of the Seven Summits in 2002.
The blind adventurer lost his sight to a rare disease, juvenile retinoschisis, when he was 13. Weihenmayer said he had a hard time adjusting.
